| The quality of education in the new
community is a primary concern of the relocating family. We would like to make some
suggestions that may aid you in determining the standards of education that exist in the
Kansas City area schools. The information is
objective. You will notice that many of the items vary widely from community to community.
This is because the public schools are for the most part locally autonomous. The largest
part of your real estate tax dollar will go to support the school system in your own town,
and the way that tax dollar is spent is decided by the local Board of Education.
We cannot give you subjective opinions of specific
schools, because individual families are looking for individual qualities in the kinds of
school their children attend.
Generally speaking, the higher the educational level of the
parents in a particular school district, the higher the educational level of the schools
in that district will be. Since the support of the school exists on the local level, the
community has a great deal of control over the quality of education. Our best advice to
you is that after carefully studying the statistics we have provided, go to the school in
question and visit with and question the administrators, teachers and students. You will
find they are most willing to be helpful and will be able to give you a great deal of
insight as to the quality of education being offered . You might want to ask if the scores
of national achievement tests or SAT scores are available to you. |
